At Makado, we are driven to create residential developments — focusing on the senior population — within communities that have a strong sense of their own identity, and to make a long-term impact within those communities. We believe that residents, families and team members deserve nothing less than physical environments that allow for meaning and purpose on a daily basis.

Our Partners

We partner with organizations that share our commitment to going beyond simply developing properties to creating communities that drive positive economic outcomes and resonate with families, residents and staff.

Our People

Mark Appelbaum

Founding Partner

Mark founded Makado in 2012 and immediately developed the first Makado project, which culminated in a 56-home residential community in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Previously, he was a leader in the tax-exempt lending industry at Piper Jaffray for over 20 years, serving as a managing director in the fixed income department, as well as on the firm leadership team and Department Operating Committee.

Mark has been the vision behind the growth of Makado, which has resulted in the creation of vibrant communities — primarily focused on the aging population — that have enriched the lives of residents, their families and the communities in which they reside.

Mark grew up in the Twin Cities and has lived and traveled abroad. He graduated cum laude from Boston University and with academic distinction from Thunderbird School of Graduate Management. He has served in numerous volunteer leadership capacities over the past 20 years, including his current role as board secretary of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and recent service as its immediate past treasurer. He also serves on the Global Partnership Council of an international sister city enterprise.
